The Real Scandal Behind the Arrested Tot

You might have missed it if you were among the 3 1/2 people surprised that Don Imus says shocking things on the airwaves... but a kindergartener was arrested a few weeks ago for throwing a tantrum. Like Don Imus, isn't this practically what kindergarteners are paid to do? Anyway, Slate Magazine has a nice expose on the story with a picture of the police file on the public menace.

Besides the obvious idiocy of arresting a kid for throwing a tantrum, does anyone besides me find it odd that the police department demanded the Social Security number of the kid? Why do they need it? Are they going to garnish the little tyke's wages? Or should I be depressed that the parents gave it out?
